The first-generation iPad Mini was released on November 2, 2012, and was designed to offer a more compact alternative to the standard iPad. It features a 7.9-inch LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology and a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The device is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU and an Apple A5 2nd Generation chip. It comes with a front-facing 1.2 MP camera and a rear-facing 5 MP camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. The iPad Mini measures 200 mm x 134.7 mm x 7.2 mm and weighs between 308 g and 312 g, depending on the model. It was initially available in storage capacities of 16, 32, and 64 GB.
